J. Aitken, LFHCfS

Jennifer A. Aitken, MS
Member, Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists
Research Scientist
Optech International
Mississippi, USA
<more about this member>

"My friend Jennifer Aitken is an ideal candidate for the Luxuriant, Flowing Hair Club for Scientists. Jen is a research scientist for Optech International, has been working in the field of airborne remote sensing for over 15 years. After completing her bachelor's degree at the University of Texas at Austin, Jen worked on high accuracy kinematic GPS applications for structural monitoring and aerial photography at Applied Research Labs in Austin before moving to Canada for grad school. She completed her Master of Science degree in Oceanography at the University of British Columbia. Her work in airborne hyperspectral imaging, including centimeter-level kinematic positioning, wetland mapping, and project management of multi-sensor airborne data acquisitions, has taken her to thousands of locations, some exotic and many mundane. Jen's recent presentations at scientific conferences include discussions of atmospheric correction of hyperspectral imagery, sensor fusion with bathymetric lidar, and production of seafloor classifications. Even for a scientist with great hair, Jen leads an unusually fascinating life. A dual citizen who travels often to Canada to snow ski but calls the Gulf Coast of Mississippi home, Jen is a voracious and sophisticated lover of art, literature, cuisine, fashion, and live music. Jen once met Matthew McConaughey, but she was wearing overalls and wading boots and a hurricane had just washed away her house, rendering her incapable of fully appreciating the experience. Recently, when named one of Mississippi's 'Most Wanted Singles' by South Mississippi Living Magazine, Jen listed her mind as her most interesting quality. However, her luxuriant, flowing hair is a close second."

L. Fog, R. Nelligan, & W. Tuckwell, LFHCfS

Lotte Fog, PhD, Raelene Nelligan, BSc, & Wendy Tuckwell, BSc
Member, Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists
The Royal Adelaide Hospital
Adelaide, South Australia

"We are Medical Physicists, working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia. Sometimes, we get up very early in the morning to shampoo, condition, brush, mousse, style, dry and hair-spray to maintain our Luxuriantly Flowing Hair, but, as you can see from the photos, the results speak for themselves.
Whilst Wendy's 2 puppies and her PhD work keep her occupied and Raelene makes and sells cards to raise funds for Cancer research, Lotte is a talented (but unfortunately, as yet unrecognised) poet."

She pens:
   "As a genuine medical physicist
    one must long nights of studying bear
    and on knowledge of rad?iation physics insist;
    and for protocols ardently care
    to be willing to calibrate linacs: persist
    late 'nto nights which once used to be spare
    time; to neither black coffee nor mud cake desist
    and a grubby white lab coat to wear
    But to aim for true excellence, foll'wing the gist
    of great Einstein, of Newton, Pinker [pronounce: pink-hair]
    the one passion which physicists must not resist
    is luxuriantly flowing hair!
    An osmosis of beauty and brains - oh beware
    world - of scientists with flowing hair!"'

"Hi,
Thanks for immortalizing my hair in the Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists. I enjoyed very much the fame
and the publicity at first, but now I receive a little bit too much... I would thus like my entry to be retracted.
Thank you for your comprehension"
